Fitters have put new vinyl on top of old vinyl in bathroom

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

Hi, just had new sheet of vinyl fitted in a very small bathroom and it does not cover the area behind the sink where the pipes are. Also I was able to easily remove the vinyl revealing the old vinyl. I thought you have to remove the old vinyl first? Can they do this or should I go back to the tradesmen. Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, good practice is to remove existing floor and make good the sub-floor (wooden or concrete), preparing it for the new vinyl installation. Also, assuming that you are talking about the area underneath the basin, if there is a pedestal, that should have been removed prior flooring installation and a neat cut should've been achieved around pipework. I strongly recommend that you contact the tradesmen to come back and rectify it and/or if this is the best they can do, then hire someone with proper flooring background and skills. Hope this helps.
