hi There are several ways to do this job which will reflect the price. with a multi-tool remove plaster and laths were shelves will be positioned, nogg between exposed upright timbers, plasterboard out flush with finished wall and make good. Find the upright timbers place pins on timbers closest to holes in the shelves then re-drill holes to suit. If there's room remove skirting board on the wall your going to shelve find all uprights mark, screw 15-18mm ply on the compleat wall then plasterboard over.

Hi GP carpentry is partly correct but what’s the point of removing the skirting and lathing causing more work when you know the height and length of your floating shelves draw a pencil horizontal line were your shelves are going checking for electric and pipes first drill screws along the pencil line to you find 2 timber studs they are usually about 40cm apart but being a lath wall they can anything between 30cm and 60cm once found then you can line up your stud location with your shelves and drill new holes in the back of your floating shelves fix to wall and you won’t see any pencil marks or trial holes and plus you won’t have to fix your skirting get the wall plastered because all plasterers will tell You once you damage a lath wall it can snowball and you end up plastering the whole wall atb David
