New doors and creaky stairs
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.20 PM
Having purchased a new house, we would like: - To change all 8 internal doors - how long would a job like this take - the current doors all seem to be slightly different in width/height. The work would also need to include adding new handles, hinges etc - Having taken all of the carpet/underlay off - the stairs in the new house are extremely creaky and were before we took the carpet/underlay off. What are the options to make sure they dont creak?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The job could be straightforward if shooting in the doors could be done in the area they need to be hung, installed, so reducing the time. I would price this job at two days labour.
the stairs. Check stairs are fixed secure, reglue and add new wedges noggins if needed.

To properly change 8 doors inspect stairs would definitely take more than one day, at beat if u bring 2-3 people them maybe.
Normally would take for good tradesman 2-3 days at least

I would say your looking at a good 2 days work for fitting the 8 doors, i would tend to setup outside to do all the cutting and planing tho.
In respect to the stairs usually securing the risers into the back of the treads and adding extra glue blocks can help a lot, it can be a bit of work if the under side of the stairs is boarded tho.

My brother runs his own internal door fitting service, he would replace 8 doors and handles etc in the day. Not sure how to get details etc as I am new on my builder.com.
