Why isnt my chimney breast drying up after removing and plastering?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

Hi there Firstly thank u guys soo much for taking time to read and get bk to me. We took out our chimney breast 2 weeks ago and re plastered the whole room along with it. 2 weeks on, the 3 walls are dry as pie but the chimney wall is around 95% dry all around, but the 5% in the middle is still wet (ish). There seems to be quite a few blob shapes that are dark and look wet. Does anyone know what this could be, if its summit serious, and how long u think it'll take to dry. Ive primed the other walls but cnt do anything further as im waiting on this wall to dry. Please help x

The bricks in the chimney should be treated for smoke and fire. This could stop air flow. Or it could me moisture coming floor up. Have you tried drying it yourself and seing if itcomes back?

I would imagine the chimney breast area was bonded out with a thicker plaster or sand and cement first to make it level, therefore it would take longer to dry than the other walls that were probably just re-skimmed.

This will eventually dry out but it seems like the paint has gone on before it had a chance to dry thoroughly, common problem because we just want to get the job done quickly.
