Tiling

4 months old Clicking tiles

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

I had my kitchen remodeled with the floor tiled first on a wooden subfloor . The tiler put some fibre cement sheets at 7.5mm. The cabinets installed the following day. This was only done 4 months ago and we keep having grout coming off n different places and I can hear a crunchy noise when I step on a tile at one location. At another location I can hear a popping sound. What is causing this problem and how should I get it fixed. He has come back to regrout and replaced one or two tiles but it keeps happening. Before I had a 40 years old floor installed directly on the wooden subfloor and no clicking I have the feeling he has installed the tiles incorrectly. What are your thoughts? Thanks

if tiles are popping and making noises then they are loose,. if the have not cracked, but they are loose then there is a product I found called fix a floor its a diy product, you can remove the grout or drill small holes in the grout and inject it into the holes and it fills all the loose voids and secures the tile, then you can grout it and the grout wont crack anymore,.... I saw the youtube videos and tried it on a job I was on where an old floor was coming loose. it worked brilliant! google Fix A Floor, try it,, might work better than replacing the whole floor. but try it before tiles get too bad and crack, then its too late

The cement boards should have been primed with an SBR type product to prevent the moisture being sucked from the adhesive too quickly. If that wasn't done you will have a problem on your hands.
