How to determine if a lamp is class 1 or 2?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

Hello. I bought a ceiling lamp recently that I am planning to install this weekend. The body of the lamp is made from wood and there is a metal chain with a hook on the end that will hold the lamp in place from the ceiling fitting. There is a wooden outer block that will go around the hook for decoration. There is no earth wire within the wiring of the lamp, but the live and neutral wires are inside another insulated tube. The seller hasn't indicated if the lamp is class 1 or 2 (small online store from outside the EU) so I'm not sure if this lamp is safe without an earth wire. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get an electrician to have a look? Doubt it would be classed as anything if it’s come from abroad tbh.

Get an electrician to have a look is the best way to be sure, but If You Can see a symbol of double square that means 2nd class lamp and it is safe without the earthing wire. If you can not see any symbol on this lamp call an electrician.
