Fixing method for handrail brackets into plaster covered brick walls
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.20 PM
Hi All, Can anyone suggest a suitable anchoring / fixing method for handrail brackets into a plaster covered brick wall for a home environment. The Handrails will be used for acceding and descending the stairs so need to withstand some mild force. I am considering using resin fixings rather than wall plugs, any advice and suggestions are welcome. Kind Regards Rich.

Hi There Rich,
I had to fit a lot of these for a wheelchair user , she could ascend stairs using her arms. You have options. Assuming a good, solid wall, three 75mm screws/plugs in each mount will take most family use but the holes in the brackets will need to need opened out for a large enough fixing screw and a decorative cap added. Next you could use the resin plus screws and plugs. That's most stable adults catered for. Rawbolt make a steel sleeved fixing which is strong if you have the right size hole to start and will take the full weight of an adult if there is just a single centre fix on the bracket. As always, much depends on the strength of the wall and the care in drilling. Hope that's of some help.

Rawl plugs and 60mm screws will be adequate if a brick wall. Brown plug and a 7mm masonry bit. Size 4.5 or 5 screws.
