I have a (wood) front door needs to be replaced with a wood door!

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

We are in need of a tradesman that can remove existing wood external door and frame and replace with wood frame and door! We have seen a door in wicks but haven’t bought it yet because not 100% sure whether we can get a frame and door that will fit!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello Fred, Don’t worry, you will be able to find an external timber frame and door suitable for your home. Just make sure you measure the opening where your door will be going. Have at least a 5mm gap each side of the legs and at least 5mm gap on the head of the door. This is so you can have enough space to level and plumb (using packers) your door. Hope this helps.

LIke the above have stated. Do not buy the door until you have measured up. make sure you have room to play with when fitting the external frame. Make sure the door is for external use if buying from the likes of wickes. Any tidy fitter will tell you all you need to know when getting quotes. Aaron

You will always be able to buy a frame to fit a standard off-the-shelf door, so that's not a problem. You need to make sure the frame fits your opening. You can cut/reduce the door down if it is too large, this is normally 5mm on either side and 10mm off the bottom (the label on the door will tell you how much you can reduce it) The frame can be cut and adjusted to any size with it being solid wood. If you have an old property you may find that a standard door will not fit due to you needing to cut too much off it, which would void the warranty on the door. So in that case you could down down the route in a handmade solid timber door and frame made for your opening size, but this would increase the cost for you.
