Sink Push Fit Reducer?? Sink leaking

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

We discovered a leak coming from the wall where the waste pipe goes in. Found out that the waste in the wall has an internal diameter of 38mm (40mm plastic pipe) And the waste from our sink is 32mm metal pipe. The plumber who installed the waste, put one waste inside the other along with silicone sealant, which has now given way. Shall we get a push fit reducer 40mmx32mm and is it's easy enough to install it ourself? any special requirement of silicon to be use due to the different materials ? Or shall we use only silicon again and keep an eye on it and re do the silicon every year? Thank you for any answer!! Best Monica

Hi Monica, Your correct, reducer 40mm to 32mm compression or push fit. I know most plumbers prefer solvent fit but his may be tricky as it’s already push fit connection however if not then go for solvent fix, much durable and sustainable. Hope that helps
