Painted floor peeling

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

We painted our floor with floor paint and its only lasted a year and its starting to peel loads. We painted over tiles (not vinyl or ceramic, they are a plastic type of material) do we need to put an undercoat of primer down first or a coating of some sort of sealant?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello You definitely need to prime before adding the finish floor paint.

In order to ensure good adhesion, especially on floors, firstly you will need to make sure the surface is clean and grease free. Clean the floor with sugar soap and rinse off and allow to dry fully. Lightly sand the surface and wipe off dust. Prime the floors with an adhesion-promoting primer such as Zinsser 123 primer, Dulux Super Grip or Crown Grip Extreme Primer (follow manufacturers instructions on number of coats and drying times) then overcoat with your choice of floor paint.
