Chimney breast in bedroom but no chimney

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.20 PM

Hi all, We have just bought a semi detatched property and like most people want to get rid of the awkward chimney breast in the main bedroom. Now the breast is on the wall which is at the end of the house. We also have chimney breast which are in the middle of the house (Joined to next doors) with a shared chimney. The top of the wall meets the end of the roof so there is no chimney breast and doubt there ever was. So I don't know why exactly there is a chimney breast. Anyway, does anyone have any idea why it's there and if it can be removed. The one under it in the lounge will stay as it is. Thanks

sounds like the chimney stack has been dropped below the roof line , the chimney stack in the loft may still be there, as long as you are supporting any brickwork above correctly there is no reason it cant be removed. good luck Alex

Yes it can be removed starting from the loft as it would of been dropped originally to the inside of loft and roof either patched or re roofed

Hi Alex, Agree with both answers as The chimney seems dormant and has been cut off. I would check to see what type of support is there from the roof to attic, if from attic to roof chimney has been removed you are all clear however if only cut off attic down then make sure adequate beam structure support is in place.
