Cracks in Ceiling below bathroom

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.19 PM

I have noticed that a hairline crack has appeared in my lounge ceiling which is about 50cm long. There is no discoloration just a crack when touched the paint flakes a bit. The first floor room above if the bathroom and the crack is just to the side of the bath which you get in and out on at the taps end. There is a waste pipe which runs from the bath under a tiled floor from the bath to the down pipe in this area but not other piping. I have removed the bath panel and I can see any sign of a leak, but obviously the waste pipe below the titles could be leaking. floor. What should I do the crack is definitly getting worse, but there is no discoloration to indicate water is leaking. Should I get one of those moisture detector things etc? Could the crack have been caused by getting in and out the bath? There is also a heated towel rail in the area above the crack. I wanted to avoid pulling up the tiled bathroom floor, but I am lost to what is causing the crack as there is no staining Slight edit I have now spotted a crack in the ceiling on the upper floor as well, this one runs the width of the house, from the bathroom then through the landing to the wall on the other side above the stairs again only a crack no sign of water damage, I have been up in the loft to check as the cold water tank is up there. Very worried about this crack as its follows along one roof joist throught different rooms Cracks co inside with heating going on an off lots during the day so the house goes from hot to cold to hot etc while in house and at work etc. For information house was built in 1989,

Sounds like a definite possible small leak, a plumber should be able to take off your bath panel and locate the problem with ease Craig
