Moving a light switch

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

I am wanting a light switch moving the house originally had 2 doors into the living room one from the hallway and one from the kitchen the kitchen doorway has been removed and covered over (this was done before we moved in) but now I am left with a light switch that appears to be in the middle of my wall. I am wanting to move it to the other side of the doorway so it cosmetically looks better. How would I do this would it need totally re-wiring and relocating or can you get a decent wireless light switch and receiver in the uk. The light switch is just a single switch operating one ceiling light. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Option 1: Disconnect the light switch at the light fitting, fill in the light switch, lift floorboard above the light fitting and install a 'Lightwave reciever', install the 'Lightwave battery remote light switch' where you want it. Option 2: Replace light switch with a 'Retrotouch' RF remote light switch, put a picture over the light switch, screw a retrotouch battery light switch where you want it, and buy a Keyfob remote controller as well because you can. Hi, The switch wire would run from the switch position straight to the pendant light on the ceiling. Ideally you would need access under the floor the to chase (cut out wall) in new position. 2 hour job max. Would need plasterer/Decorating following Electrician. Thanks Phil

Hi, you may not need to totally re wire switch if there is enough length on the cable it will come from light down to switch but would need access to the cable from above or below (I.e. floor or ceiling), and would create damage to the wall unless it’s a stud wall could be achieved without damages.
