most builders now ask for some money upfront to pay for materials, you can but the bathroom suit your self for the builder,

Hi Sonia, I would always advise to do a 3stage payment scheme with bathrooms. But some builders work different, specially if it’s a “cash” job. I’m affraid in this day in age it all does come down to trust. I hope it all works out for you and the bathroom is finished the way you want it.

It is good practice to ask for deposits to keep overheads low so that materials can be purchased; trust goes two ways and so long as you have a quote and a trail to this payment you have made either through your bank or by making the builder sign for the payment received then I think this is perfectly acceptable.....

Trust is a two way thing. How do they know you are going to pay up at the end? Similarly, you don’t know if they are going to deliver either.
