Changing from Battery smoke alarm to battery and mains operated

Hi,
I have previously bought battery operated smoke detectors however they keep alerting me to "Battery Low" after about 1 year - These are the non removable battery smoke alarms. Therefore I am looking to buy a Battery & Mains Operated smoke detector, would you agree this in an ideal solution so it still works if the power goes out?
I live in a 1 bed flat so would only have 1 battery/mains smoke alarm.
My hallway doesn't have any power socket, would the electrician be able to connect it to the main circuit board or would he have to either put in a new power point or one of those like wall switches.

We would always advise that mains smoke alarms with battery back up are installed for the reason you mentioned, however battery only alarms with a sealed lithium battery normally have a life span of 10 years which is pretty impressive only downside to these types of alarms is they can't communicate with other alarms on the property and they are not normally accepted by building control.
Mains powered alarms are installed in a way which means they can communicate with each other so if one goes into alarm they all do giving you a much louder alarm that can be heard throughout the property. They can be installed on there own circuit back to the board or from a lighting circuit the only downside is that getting the cable to each alarm would normally involve the lifting of floors potentially damage to walls ceilings etc depending on the run. As a minimum at least one alarm on each floor of the property (hallway & Landing) although we do advise that the kitchen has a heat alarm due to been a high risk area. Hope This Helps.

I agree totally with Anthony and would like to just add some electricians would wire it off the nearest ceiling light, while others would run a new separate circuit. (not needing a power socket)
