Mould in gap between wall and toilet cistern

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

I had the insides of my toilet sister replaced about 6 months ago which involved the Plummer removing the sistern. I have now noticed black mould growing behind it as there is now a slight gap between the cistern and the wall as condensation after showers is getting in this gap. I can't clean it unless I remove the cistern which means calling another Plummer out. If I leave will it get worse or do I remove it and clean? If I do the latter how can I prevent it returning?

Try to loose the cictern. At the bottom two 'butterfly' nuts a little bit not to much and two srews to unscrew cictern from the wall. It might give you bigger gap between the wall and the cictern. So it should be posible to slide wet soapy towel from the top to bottom or from the bottom to the top moving side to side. Retight the nuts and screw cictern back to the wall. Flash the water and check for any leaks. Good ventilation and heating of the bathrooms and shower rooms is essential for preventing the mould growth. Ventilation fan timer could be set to run for a longer period. Towel rail could be converted to dual fuel to keep the towels and the room dryer even in the summer time.
