Having a bathroom tiled and was quoted a price which we agreed to, i was under the impression that the area around the bathtub and around windows would be sealed with silicone sealant (mastic) as part of the job.
The tiler has come back saying that sealing around window edges and bathroom constitutes a separate job and he needs a special mastic man and would cost me more money.
Is silicone mastic sealing around the bath and around windows as part of a tiling job or do these need to be agreed separately.
Thanks in advance.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
The cost of sanitary silicone is around £2.50 to £10 for top of the range per tube and would take around 1/2 hour to an hour to seal a bath.
I would always complete this part for a customer as it 'puts the cherry on the cake' and gives a finish to be proud of... I would have already discussed this part and included cost in my quote.
It just comes down to bad communication from your tiler, he should not be leaving you unhappy if you ask me 😀
tiler Refused to masticate windows (okay maybe) but to say he needs a separate sealant man to come and finish says a lot about his experience. A good tiler would take on a job from start to finish and complete sealant.
I always seal the bath and anywhere else required after tiling without question. This however is usually discussed with the client prior to starting the job to ascertain the colour required. Good communication is important to iron out the little things
Hi sealing around the bath and windows is definitely the last part of the job afteer grouting and polishing the tiles. Should have been done as part of the job.

Mastic man could do the job. Customer should be informed about it in advance. Plumber should silicone gap between bathtub and wall. Grout must be removed from the gap for flexible, more and better sealing. Watch you tube videos for tools and technics needed. Clean and degreased (white or methylated spirit) surfaces are the key.
