Split air con connections
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.43 PM
I am planning to install a split Air conditioning unit (3.3kw) in bedroom/office. I can do the installation but I would need an f-gas registered engineer and an electrician to connect it. Thinking of the cost here; having 2 separate engineer would cost a lot....Are electrician usually f-gas certified? or is there a trade that specialize in connecting air conditioning units?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

F-gas certification is not usually something that an electrician would carry, although larger A/C firms may have competent engineers who can install the electrical service. That would likely be costly too.
It is doubtful that you are local to me, but may I suggest you view my profile!?

Hey,
So I would advise getting a qualified air conditioning engineer (F-gas registered) in after you have completed your installation to check over all of the pipework connections with a pressure test to make sure there is no leaks on the pipework. This will then need to be vacuumed and charged to the manufacturer specs.
I would also advise to get a qualified electrician in to do the power supply. This is usually run in SWA, then MCB is determined by the max running current by condenser. Oh, and in most cases the communication cable is a 1.5 mm 4 core that runs from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit.
I’m sure there are FM companies that can cover all bases.
