Roof cleaning - one story terraced cottage.
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.19 PM
I have a small (front elevation 15m, side elevation 10m) one story terraced cottage. The tiles are of the Redland double roman concrete interlocking. How is a job like this done? I understand it can be done by power jet but I would not consider this. Thanks

Don't use pressure, scrape as much moss as possible and treat with a biocide, wont be instant results but the moss will die and wash off with the weather over a couple of months due to the biocide killing the moss, algae etc.

Hi you don’t want to go scraping moss off as it’s more than likely to remove any waterproof coating that’s left of the tile , what I normally do is fit copper strip along the ridge so when it rains the water reacts with the copper and flows down the roof killing off the moss and not damaging any roof tiles

Definitely not pressure washer, removal by scraping with trowel or copper strip to kill moss are fine tho. If the moss has been there ages and its a very old roof, removal could deteriorate the tile further by removing more of the surface.
