Do I need to have my floor fitted before or after my fireplace is tiled?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.41 PM
I want to have split faced tiling on the base of my fireplace 'hearth'. The base is half a standard tile in height from the floor. I'm concious that if I have the split faced tiling fitted will this affect if I have my laminate floor fitted after or should I have my floor fitted first? As I understand it the split faced tiles jut out a bit so I'm wondering if this would get in the way of fitting the floor. Any advice is appreciated

The fireplace should already have some sort of floating concrete constructional hearth there so I would say lay the new flooring up to the old concrete hearth ready for the new surround and super imposed hearth. If it's purely decorative then the hearth can overlay the new floor. Any surround should be securely fixed to the wall so the weight shouldn't present a problem with it being on a first floor. Hope this helps.
