Best Wood for a close boarded fence

I would like advice on the best type of wood for a close boarded garden fence. Thanks for the trouble replying !

Hi David You would need to get tanalised treated feathered edge boards at the required height

The simple answer is oak! Many closeboard and open pale fences as erected in schools and by councils in the 70's are still standing! Yes it's expensive so as a 2nd choice use tanalised (Tanalith) treated softwood. Lots of info on google about the treatment process. I swear by 100mm x 100mm treated fence posts.. I've never had one rot since I started as a fencer in 83!!
