Dear experts, I would like to know doing single side extension is allowed till boundary, whether it require a planning permission. The place currently being used as carport approx width to boundary around 2.9m or extending backside is preferable option. which option will provide better value for the house. I would really appreciate your help regards prab

Hi
Your local authority will have development plans which will identify several issues on which your side extension required to meet. There is no standard compliance to answer your question and each local authority have their own development policies to deal with control of developments. Please see further advice from your local authority.
Kind regards

Hello Prab!
A lot of single storey extensions can be done under permitted development as long as the proposed works stay meet certain requirements. This link here will show you.... And also save me typing everything out.

In terms of what provides best value of the house is all dependent on the existing layout and whether or not a rear extension or side extension will suit the new layout better. The house really needs to be seen or described in better detail to give a better opinion on that.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Luis

Hi
Without planning, the side extension can only be half the width of main house. As for example, if your main house is 6 metres wide then the side extension can be 3metres.
Anything more, you will need to apply for planning permission.
If you want to connect side with rear, definitely you will need planning. If you can get planning for side and rear connected it’s usually better value as the space is wider. But, the best way to assess the value and options would be by visiting the site and going through what you want to achieve.
Hope this helps.
