Wooden floors - what type of tradesman needed?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.40 PM
We recently bought a house with dark wooden floors, which have been varnished and are quite shiny. We're looking to have them sanded down and stained a lighter shade, with a less glossy finish. I haven't had any interest in the job posted on here, but think maybe that's because I don't understand what needs to be done. Would a flooring fitter be the right person for this job or would it be a different type of tradesman? You can see the flooring I'm talking about on my profile.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Carpenter or a flooring specialist, although as stated before if it is old floor and has been stained many times you really might not have any luck getting it back to light wood. Also it depends what wood the flooring is to begin with? At a guess I would say mahogany or oak?

Hi. I think the problem is that there isn't a relevant section that is specifically for this other than 'flooring'.
You do need to find a trade that specialises in this kind of work. Those that do are from my experience very efficient with great results and they used dust-less sanding machines. Credit where credit is due

Hi, I think a lot of the issues is the sanding. I have a dust extractor fitted to my sanders but it depends to what condition you’d like them sanding. A dark stained floor can be very difficult to get back to bare wood as the stain sinks deep into the grain. I hope this helps,

Hi I’m a wooden flooring restoration business which involves the sanding and staining and varnishing of all old floors . The machines I use are virtually dust free and can remove all old varnish and stains to bring the old boards back to looking as good as new ready for what ever finish you want to put on them
