Options to carry out work in inaccessible area behind a run of kitchen base units?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.43 PM
Follow up to issue below: the mouse issue is well over a year old. Neighbour does not have ( internal ) problem, I doubt external solution/ blocking possible. I used pest control a year ago and it cleared for a couple of months. Used wire wool but that obviously failed to completely block entry, issue recurred. Added more wire wool, still not solved. A handyman offered to try to block but did not suggest a way to access area except from below units ( not possible to get close!) , so I doubted effectiveness, especially as crack may be behind/under insulation ( newish extension! easy to tunnel through,) so would not be solved. How easy is it to get behind ( dismantle or other option etc) units without wrecking kitchen? I want to assess how feasible/ difficult it will be to solve and what type of tradesman to use. I have a mouse problem. I strongly suspect ingress is via crack(s) in corner behind run of base units. I want any cracks permanently sealed. I and neighbour have adjoining kitchen extensions. I have concrete patio, they have decking. There was external crack where extensions join, sealed above surface, but unable to check lower, because it would be necessary get below the decking they are very unlikely to agree to any such work ( from what I could see all their decking would have to be fully dismantled to get to corner.) Other option would be to create hole in my outsIde wall for access to carry out work internally, but possible or desirable? So interior solution required? There is run of three joined base units along sidewall into corner joined to double sink unit with associated pipes plumbing etc along end wall, (with white good units at either end). Legs perhaps 5 inches tall. There are water and electrical wires gas pipes in corner supplying the Worcester Bosch higher up. I tried using wire wool to block using stick under units to push in to corner, but ineffective. I would have no objection to cutting panel(s) in corner unit, but it would be very cramped for working, not sure how feasible. Or dismantle run of units? Or should I give up and get a cat? ( not my preferred option.) Advice desired.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
