Removing internal wall

How big should the steel beam be if taking away a supporting wall. The wall is 8ft long and all of that length will be taken away. My question is how long should the beam be and how wide and high should it be.

Your beam should have a minimum of 150mm support on either side so 300mm minimum longer than wall to wall and sitting on pad stones . 220mm high and 120 wide .The latter sizes are approximate give or take a few mm .Building warrant may be required

Totally dependent on whether wall is load bearing or not. I'd highly recommend contacting a structural engineer via your local planning officer before proceeding

Very simple answer it will be whatever the structural engineer calculates as you will need this along with a building notice from the council .
