Mould and fungus after leak
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.19 PM
Hello i had mould and fungus growing in my hall. On investigation it was coming from a leak in the toilet. The leak was repaired about four weeks ago but the mould which appeared to be clearing up seemed worse today and the fungus has started to grow again. Is my best course of action to keep spraying it with mould spray, hire a machine to dry the area out ( and if so for how long) or call in a specialist? Money is tight, needless to say! I' d appreciate advice as I' m not sure whether to contact a builder, plumber or equipment hire company to deal with this.

Do you know what type of fungus it is? If it's like a skin colour (Google plaster fungus for image) it could be plaster fungus which need's a constant supply of moisture. If it is this type of fungus it would suggest your leak is not fixed or you have another one. This would also account for the mould appearing to as this needs a high humidity to germinate.
Hope this helps

The wall must still be damp if the mould keeps returning, I would test the wall with a damp meter to see how much moisture the wall is holding then I'd hire a dehumidifier for a week to dry out the wall then test the wall again just to make sure the wall has dryed out. The wall can then be treated and painted.
