How long does it take for water stains to stop spreading after a leak has been fixed?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Water stains started appearing in the next door bedroom about three weeks before the source of the leak was discovered under the bath. The plumber fixed three leaks and reckoned the pipes had been dripping for a while as the floor was quite water logged. Two weeks later and the stains are still increasing albeit very slowly. Is this normal and if so how long will it be before they stop growing? I am obviously concerned that there may still be a leak. Many thanks in advance.

its really how long is a piece of string. dependent on how much water was stored under the floor before the leak was discovered will depend on how log it takes to dissipate, the easy way for peace of mind would be to lift the floor boards and see how much water is lying there or if there is still a problem with leakage. good luck Alex

to add to previous answer if you want to make sure it doesn't expand any more you can draw a pencil line around the satin to make sure it has stop. If it was 2 weeks after the repair I would double checked that all the leaks ware found and sorted as it sounds bit long for the stain to "grow"
