Central Heating

How much disruption would my tenants have to install gas central heating?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi I rent out a small 2 bed terraced house in Milton Keynes and one of the two storage heaters has broken. There is gas supplied to the house but it has been capped off in the past. If I convert to gas central heating, how long will this take? Are carpets re-laid after taking up? Will the storage heaters and immersion heater be removed? Basically can the tenants live around this work and how much time should I allow? Thanks in advance. Carrie

Hi Carrie, it is hard to say exactly how much it would cost but you would be looking at 2-4 days for the works to be done. It would be a lot easier if the tenants were away during that time so the engineers do not have anything slowing them down. If you were to install a wet central heating then yes the cylinder would be removed and so would the storage heaters. You would have radiators throughout the property and you could decide which option you were prefer regarding the pipework. You may want pipes chased in walls and floors or you may want everything surface ran with drop downs. If you have carpets they would be relaid afterwards but please be aware they may not go down exactly the same as they do now.
