Wiring Off grid Solar System into Mobile house Consumer Unit

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.19 PM

Hi - I am trying to get some information regarding wiring a off grid solar system to the consumer unit for the house. There are a few suggestions regarding a separate consumer unit feeding into the main consumer unit, or wiring through a separate rcd, i am using a 17th edition unit with 2 rcds, one mains ring on a 32a mcb, 2 radial lighting circuitS on 6a MCB'S - i have a spare rcd. I will not be wiring this myself, this is for clarification as i see on forums there are plenty of solar installs that are done incorrectly. Also, this is a completely off grid set up on a mobile house/trailer. Can anyone shed some light on this? Much appreciated, Ash

Are you asking this for clarification or to attempt yourself? I agree completely with Deacon here. When connecting a generating set to the supply network, European legislation comes in to play (ESQCR) and has further implications. My sincere apologies, you do state that it's off-grid, my error. Either method is acceptable - a separate board or utilise existing spare ways. That would be for the installation 'designer' to assess. RCD protection (100mA; although 30mA may be required depending on the inverter used) will be required as a minimum to achieve your disconnection times. Again my apologies for the misunderstanding.
