No Hot Water - Radiators warming up even when heating is turned off

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.58 PM

Hi, I have a Vailiant EcoTech Plus boiler with a Honeywell Digital Thermostat and when I open the hot water tap I can see the hot water sign on the boiler however there is very little luke warm or cold water flowing through. Instead of this, the radiators are warming up when the heating is sett too OFF from the thermostat. It was all working fine and suddenly this happened - any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It sounds like a problem with the diverter valve inside the boiler that has stuck in the heating position. Likely this has happened if you have recently called for the central heating to be on. You will need a heating engineer to take a look at it.

As a heating engineer I concur with last comment, it is the diverter valve OR you have a build up of particle sludge ( magnetite ) in your hot water plate heater ( AKA secondary heat exchanger ) the boiler water when trying to heat tap water cannot pass through properly so tends to pass diverter & towards the radiators .
