A couple of questions About sizing newly plastered walls with diluted wall paper paste
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.19 PM
Hi does sizing newly plastered walls with diluted wall paper paste create a seal to stop it shedding dust? And does it matter how long the walls have been sized before wall papering, or do you have to do it again prior to hanging the paper? Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi when applying wall paper to a newly plasterd wall it is a good idea to let ot cure for at least 48hrs then to paint the wall to seal it, then i would size it and apply wallpaper. This will insure that any wallpaper you hang will adhere well. Hope this helps.Regards Martin

Hi. I'm unsure about the part of your question regarding shedding dust?
But to answer regarding sizing newly plastered walls, yes diluted wallpaper paste can be used but the method i use is this.
Pva diluted with water at a ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 (pva/water) ensure it is fully mixed, then apply with brush and roller.
The new plaster will be highly absorbent so go over it well.
Wait till it is fully dry( shouldn't take long if room is ventilated) . It will dry to a shade darker than before.
This pva mix will bind down any of the dust that is usually on the surface of freshly dried plaster.
I would then use a good quality ready mixed wallpaper adhesive purchased from a decorators merchant
