Is my Vaillant TurboMax Plus 383e ready for replacement?

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.42 PM

I am planning to let out my property for next 5 years and wondering if it makes sense to replace my Valiant Turbomax Plus 828e to e.g. a new Ideal Instinct, which is about £1300 total cost. I am being told that new condensing boilers are more efficient. Also last time gas safety engineer was reluctant to pass due old type of flue. I am seeking an advise whether it is definitely best to replace, especially that my next gas safety check is due, and I am being told there are no compatible flues for the existing boiler. Also the filter looks a bit aged UPDATE 9 Sep: Vaillant TurboMax Plus 828E was on the market from 2000-2010 so it is definitely 10 years old now. It has been maintained regularly up till 2016 and as far as I am concerned it runs flawlessly. It is marked D efficiency rate and the bills are bit painful. Essentially I'd like to know how much would a flue conversion to nowadays standards cost me as well as whether this model can be insured against breakdown. Or shall i give up and let it go?

British gas will insure your boiler....they insure 30 yr old boilers....you have 10 yrs at least left in your boiler, do not be sweet talked into a new one, that boiler has an appx. 72% efficiency rating ....not bad for a 10 yr old !

Based on your updated information, other factors come in to play regarding boiler fuel cost, if your property has poor heat loss due to insufficient loft insulation, no cavity wall insulation (if applicable) and no D.G this will increase the running cost of your boiler. As for the flue I am sure that parts are still available, this is not a conversion just simply a flue replacement. I would say based on the approx age of the boiler and your service history it may serve you a few more years, but you are now having to replace parts such as the flue and potentially other parts in the future, so I cannot quantify any further. Most unlikely that anyone will insure this boiler on a maintenance/breakdown plan because of the age. If you have the budget then replace like for like especially if your planning to let the property and you want peace of mind knowing that you have one less potential problem to worry about!

Vaillant turbomax plus by far the best boiler Vaillant ever made. Should last at least 25 years. New flues can be picked up for £70 Find yourself an independent Vaillant specialist.
