rejuvenate hardwood floors

I think my new flat has hardwood (maybe dark oak) flooring. The hallway has been subject to lots of dust, paint, adhesives etc that im wondering, aside from elbow grease, whats the best way to clean it all up and bring the floor back to life? Can i varnish it? Am i supposed to sand it?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes hardwood floors can be sanded down and varnished but best to get a professional to do it

Get yourself a nice orbital sander you don't need a professional you just need dedication and determination so much satisfaction doing it yourself and rewarding plus you save a fortune if In doubt watch YouTube. Many thanks Barrie
