changing gas oven to electric oven

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

I want to install a new dual fuel range cooker, my existing one is all gas. There is a plug socket next to the oven but its just a standard one, I know that I will need to get a new one fitted with a higher amp. The kitchen looks to be on a separate circuit - is this a big job to change the plug socket? thanks

You will need to find out how many watts your new cooker uses first. A new cable will need to be installed from your consumer unit to your cooker location depending how far or near your consumer unit is to your cooker will determine how long the job will take, running the new cable is most of the work.

Duel fuel cookers need a dedicated cooker circuit, this is one fed directly from the consumer unit specifically for the cooker. You need an electrician. It's not the most expensive job in the world. (You cannot use the existing kitchen circuit for the 13 amp plug sockets) 1) Cooker switch 2) Cooker connection point 3) Cable 4) RCD for the consumer unit The cost will be dependant on how easy it is to route the new cable, so basically how much labour it requires. 1) First Pay for an electrician to put the circuit in 2) When the cooker arrives, then pay a gas fitter to connect the appliance. (He can also connect the electrical side up providing the cooker point is already in place)
