slightly crumbly plaster where screws has been removed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

Is it normal to find that when screws and wallplugs have been removed from a stud wall, the plaster board around the area is slightly crumbly. Does this indicate that we should avoid hanging pictures in this area or will the area strengthen once it has been filled??

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Unlikely that filling would regain any strength in that area. Filled it will be fine for decorative purposes. But if you're looking to re-fix any items then i'd suggest locating elsewhere. Plasterboard's integrity relies on the bond between paper and plaster sandwhich. Once compromised its weak. Usually the weakness is caused by stress A good example of this is a toilet roll holder.
