What base is best for a vinyl or lino floor
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.18 PM
My hallway is kinda small. 3.2 metres long and 2.10 metres wide (at the widest point). It's L shaped. Original floor looks like it's just osb wood and I'm walking on some of those green fibre boards at the moment, just covered in some cardboard (cos they're so dusty). Temporary measure. I want to put some vinyl (self adhesive) floor planks or lino down but what is it that you actually put these floors onto first, to have them stick and cushion your feet? Happy to raise the floor a bit in the process, if possible. Many thanks.

your floor needs either a minimum of 6mm sp101 or fg1 ply before installation or if the sub-floor is sr1 ready (3mm over a 2m length maximum discrepancy) you can use a product such as Jumpax which will help ever so slightly with acoustic and thermal insulation.

I would review 2 possible solutions:
1 Solution.
Double layer insulated with reinforsed concrete. First bottom layer Styrofoam as insulation, Second layer reinforced concrete.
2 Solution.
If not possible to go for first solution than can use insulation as bottom layer and Plywood ( atleast 10mm thick preferably double layer) as second layer.
Flooring will be warm and solid.
