Sprinklers for fire safety
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.40 PM
Hi, we are modernising our 1960s End of Terrace house at the moment. Previous owner converted loft around 1991 and it never got completion from the inspector. We Reapplied now. On the ground floor we are demolishing a wall between small kitchen at the front of the house and dining room. Building inspector said that we should install sprinklers for fire safety. Does anyone know if there is any alternative solution? We don’t want sprinklers and especially getting contracts for maintenance. Also we would like to restore the original wooden parquet floor. Please let me know if you can advise on this further.

Rules and regs are getting tougher and tougher. The building in question is it for yourself or going to be let to tenants. That’s the important thing. If it’s a place for letting then you’ll need to pass building regs and most likely require a sprinkler system. Yet you need to ask the building inspector. Is it mandatory and requirement or they advise you to have a system in. If it’s a requirement then there is no real other option.
