IS IT LEGAL TO RUN A GUTTER OUTLET INTO TOP OF SOIL STACK

I have a old property and have just had new gutters fit please could you tell me they have run 1 of my gutter outlets into the top of my soil stack is that ok or not thanks

Hi It's not illegal as such. Some older properties will share soil and rainwater in their drains. This will be an inclusion on your sewage bill. Some water companies, require evidence, that there is no other option than to divert your rainwater into the sewage, otherwise they will request that you run it into a soakaway (new or existing). It may be a good idea to speak to your local water authority before challenging the tradesperson. Another thing to bear in mind is that you may get sewage smells from your downpipe/gutter unless you have a one way valve fitted. I hope that helps. Keep us informed if possible. Dylan
