Rating of switches for induction hob

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.57 PM

I want to change the switches for my cooker and hob to brushed steel to match the light switches. The existing white switches with a neon indicator seem to be a 50amp unit. I am struggling find any replacement switches rated at 50 amps (45 seems to be the biggest i can find). The hob is rated at 7.3kw. would a 45 amp switch be adequate for this.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, you don’t get a double pole switch rated at 50amps, it jumps from 20amps to 45amps. 20amps wouldn’t be sufficient, so a 45amp will be perfect. Thanks

7.3kw = 7300 / 230 = 31.7 amps. Therefore a 45amp rated double pole switch is more than adequate. Hope this helps.

50 amp double-pole switches in a brushed steel finish are manufactured by Hager and MK. I would recommend Hager over MK. https://www.directtradesupplies.co.uk/product.php/14373/hager-50a-double-pole-switch-1-gang-with-led--brushed-steel- https://www.electricpoint.com/mk-edge-k14336bssw-1-gang-50a-double-pole-switch-neon-brushed-st.html

Yes a 45 amp would be more than sufficient for the connected load of 7.3kw
