Advice on extractor fan fitting in bathroom with asbestos artex ceiling .

Anonymous user 15 March 2024 - 2.41 PM

Hello, I'm looking for some advice before hopefully this August or Sept I get the work done. I am in a ground floor flat with 1 level about me. my bathroom has a small double glazed window but for air flow I'd like to install an tractor fan. Having spoken with neighbours the ceiling here has a % of asbestos in it - Artex from the 80's. I've been meaning to have an extractor installed for ages but the asbestos consideration has stalled me. Advice about how best to install an extractor with minimal and safe work on the ceiling would be really appreciated. I'm a little nervous of the ceiling but really need/want the work done. Presently there is a ceiling light with a pull string by the door for electrical in the bathroom. Help and advice would be really helpful so know how to go about this job. Many thanks in advance if someone has time to reply,

To save disturbing the asbestos, you could have the extractor put through an external wall. If you are certain that you would like it to be on your ceiling, you would need a professional to come in and assess the asbestos on your ceiling. They would then advise you of the best course of action.

Hi, It sounds as though you would be best advised to install a wall mounted extractor fan. Being a downstairs flat you would not be able to install the required ducting should you ceiling mount your fan Kind regards Rick - CuLex
