Can Velux Windows to changed to Dormer in a 3 Storey house?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

We have a 3 storey house and two of the bedrooms at the back of the house have one Velux window in each due to the slope of the roof. Is it possible to change the Velux to Dormer in both rooms? The height restriction in one bedroom is a particular nuisance we have now realised and with only one Velux one part is quite dark. Would it be better to change to one Dormer or alternatively add another Velux installed to give more light? Which would be the better option, either change both windows in both rooms to Dormer or install another Velux in each room?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Dragon, to change a velux to a dormer you will be required to change the structure of the roof, this may require planning consent and will be subject to building regs control. An email to your planning office will guide you as to whether or not you can do this improvement under permitted development. Good luck. Speak soon Chris
