Can I plasterboard over mains armoured cable

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.39 PM

I have recently had my electric supply moved and they have ran the mains cable into my garage and up the wall to my fuse box. They have used armoured cable but I’m not sure wether I can plasterboard straight over or does it need more protection? Thanks in advance

You would need to contact the DNO (Distributor network Operator) these are different depending on the are of the country you're in, to ask permission as it is their property, and requires maintenance. It needs to be visible and they have right to 'remove' - normally demolish whatever is in the way in the event they require access, cupboards containing their cutouts included. . . Hope that helpls... Mark - Fuse Electrical Services (Brecon)

As Mark has said above you need to consult the DNO on this one, but another thing to bear in mind is that what appears to be armoured cable on the exterior may actually be split-concentric cable.
