payment of bill in full before final review and snagging is done

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.39 PM

is the company entitled to full payment for a job prior to the completion of a job? job has been done but we haven't done the final walk through review everything and doing a snagging list. total job is £13850. i have asked for their bank details but amazingly they havent given to me, as i want to pay £7k half way through project. the issue is that they have a gas safety certificate, that they refuse to release until we do full payment. I am happy to complete the payment but slightly annoyed with the blackmail tacktics on the GSC and the fact that we haven't done a walk through. there are a few more jobs outstanding. any thoughts on the situation Thanks Rich

Hi Richie, I would ask for 50% part payment so works can commence, the next payment would be 14 days before the works are due to finish, and then final payment once our customers are full satisfied, we would then issue certificates and then require final payment. I don’t think you should be blackmailed regarding certification. Let them finish the snagging list and you are 100% satisfied with the works, then and only then make final payment. Kind Regards Kev.

Never pay in full till all work is complete. And on full payment ask for invoice or receipt of work. So if there is any work which is not completed as stated then payment should not be made.

On larger scales jobs, usual practise is the ask for a percentage up front (usually 50%) to cover material costs, depending on how long the job goes on for, a payment mid way through is common place, but full payment should only be made on completion of the job.
