Ask a questionBathroom Fitting
Measuring quadrant

We are thinking of replacing the rectangle shower with a quadrant one. I have been informed 80 X 80 is a good size. How do I measure what 80 by 80 is in the shower room to visualise hoe big or small the shower will be. Also, do you require a tankin* kit and membrane? Is a tanking kit sufficient. How does this all work.

Hi There, 80x80 basically means 800mm on each of the two flat sides where the tray sits to the wall. I would advise fitting a 900x900 quadrant however as you may find the 800 quite tight for space especially if anyone using the shower is of a larger stature. When I ever fit 800 trays it’s usually when there’s a space restriction.

Hi, 80 X 80 is reference to the two straight lengths of the shower tray being 80cm long, which would sit in the corner of the room. If you took a tape measure and measured 80cm or 800mm from the corner of both walls and made a mark on the floor or skirting and place a piece of masking tape at both points it would help visualise the size of the shower tray and whether or not it would be suitable or could be increased in size. If you are thinking of tiling the cubicle, tanking of one form or another would be recommended, however as an alternative you could use showerboard on the two walls, as they are 100% waterproof.
