Hairline cracks after new skim

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.41 PM

We just got our walls re skimmed day before after removing existing wallpaper and today am noticing quite a lot of hairline cracks (not in a line, but in clusters of random zigzag/irregular shape) Enquired the plasterer and he said that he has done 2 quotes and it’s either because of hot weather making it dry too quick or the chemical residue from wallpapers and has advised me to use filler. But it’s quite a lot of area to fill and not reasonable. He is now advising a filler paint! I would like to know if this is reasonable excuse or a bad job that I need to fix and irrespective how to fix these many hairline cracks?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Irrelevant what caused it , you paid for smooth plastered walls. Tell him to reskim.your only as good as your last job

Hi. A 'filler paint'? There are tub coatings available to 'make good' bad walls but as other responder you paid for a new surface to your walls. In my opinion what has caused this is done. Whats relevant is how its fixed and by whom. Your plasterer did the work and took your money, so the onus is on him, either by himself or by him hiring a decorator ( who is accustomed to making good post 'plaster re-skim' )

It could be a number of things but I’d say what your plasterer is saying is the most likely explanation, especially if it’s in direct sunlight ?
