Low hot water pressure in maisonette

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.18 PM

I’m on the first floor and have only immersion heated water in a copper cylinder in airing cupboard with no cold water storage tank. No boiler as heating is electric storage heaters. Mains cold pressure is acceptable. Historically both bathroom basin and kitchen sink hot water taps have weak pressure and electric shower also poor. From reading other answers I guess the problem is that there is insufficient height from the cylinder to outlets. Any solutions? Many thanks.

It may be worth checking the status of your main cold stop tap. If this is partially closed, then pressure won't be affected but flow (how much water gets through) will be. However, if hot water is not direct (as in combi-boiler) then the low pressure is likely due to be the head height from tank to tap. Ways to overcome this may be to pipe hot water to a secondary tank and use a pump off that tank to deliver higher pressure to the taps/shower. Another solution is to ditch the cylinder for hot water and use a combi-boiler if the incoming cold pressure is adequate.
