20mm quartz worktops, induction hob and an oven underneath - can it work?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

Another quartz worktop question from me again! Is it possible to have a 20mm thick quartz worktop which has an induction hob and an electric oven underneath without encountering any problems? I did read some installation notes of a few ovens and almost all of them mention having a worktop depth of at least 30mm. Has anyone fitted a kitchen with a 20mm worktop successfully without problems? Thanks!

Like everything in a kitchen, it is about dealing with heat, moisture, movement, and hygiene. A 20mm quartz worktop can work, with the correct supports, and the correct expansion gaps.

Yes you can have 20mm thick quartz with an induction hob & an oven underneath but you would have to pay particular attention on any gap required between the bottom of the hob & the top of the oven. A lot of induction hobs are 50mm thick & require a certain gap between it and anything metal, this information is product specific and can be found in the manufacturers installation instructions.
