Should I remove uPVC edging strips

Hi, This question is not so much about windows but as I wasn't sure which trade to pick out of the options, I thought window fitters was relevant and close enough because the same plastic edgings (I can't remember the correct name of them) appear next to uPVC windows. I am in the middle of stripping wallpaper in my house and I am going to get the walls plastered (where it's needed) but around my front door the wallpaper runs under the plastic edging covers and although I know I can cut the wallpaper and silicone with a Stanley knife, I can't get a straight line without most of the silicone coming off, therefore making the plastic cover vulnerable to coming off. For ease and for a better finish, do you think it's a good idea to take the covers off, plaster the narrow walls that run into the door, then have the plastic covers put back on? Will they go on just as easy as they went on originally? Can a good finish be achieved by doing this? Does the door / walls need these plastic edging covers? Any answers and advice would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance.
