What kind of door lock / knob is this?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

Hi all, I'm trying to replace my door lock / knob as it is now out of commission. MyBuilder doesn't have a way of adding pictures to questions so I can't even show you and ask if this particular type of lock has a name, but it's a standard lock with one key whole. The knob on the outside is a bit weird - it's like a rectangle that sticks out at a 90 degree angle, and you twist it up vertically to engage the lock. On the other side of the door is like a normal door handle, which can maniuplate the front side's rectangular bit. If you know what I'm talking about, please let me know if this type of thing has a name. The whole thing is finicky and I want to replace it, but at some point I'll be looking to replace the whole door. I guess for now what I want to ask is - Is it possible for me to buy the lock now, and have it removed and reinstalled in the new door when the time comes? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi mark, I am Danny from DPW Renovations, without seeing the exact lock it is hard to say what type, I would ask is it on a UPVC door or a wooden door and also is it opened with a key? More importantly the lock/handle is never altered during installation other than by the manufacture, this is not to say it cannot be adjusted, but all adjustments can be reverse. Short story is you can buy and fit a new handle and remove it and reinstall it on a new door.
