Using a digger over a wall to clear approx 20 cubic metre of earth

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.18 PM

Hi have a 1.5 metre high wall running next to the pavement and then a tiered front garden that I want to turn into a 1 in 3 slope (eventually becoming a parking area). I have already put in a narrow concrete pathway/steps so know that it is mostly going to be earth and some building rubble. It is approx 2.4m wide with earth to just below the height of the wall and then rising to approx 3m approx 10m back. Can a digger work over the 1.5m wall to extract say an area of 2.4m width and 4m depth and knock some of the earth further back into this hole to make the slope over a longer length? Because the rest of the garden is tiered or stepped there is no easy way to get a digger into the garden. The hole is bordered by a brick garage on on one side and the brick wall of a neighbours garage on the other side.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you have a pathway into the property you could use a 008 that goes down to a width of 780mm. But if not you would need a very big digger say a 10 ton machine to get the reach and clear the wall.

To get the correct dept you need you would need a very large machine to be on the road side. As Rgbs Ltd said you would be better using a micro digger that weighs around 1 ton in weight to travel in the garden to carry out the work, id suggest maybe using a tracked barrow to help assist removing the excavated material.
